    H.261 - Video Codec

Description:

This video codec for Audio-Visual services operating at P*64 Kbits/sec (where P is the number of frames). This is based on the recommendation by ITU-T H.261. The H.261 algorithm operates at P*64 kbps.

Broadly, the picture transmission can be classified into:

  1. Picture acquisition and conversion (as per the CCIR Recommendation 601)
  2. Encoding (compressing) picture (H.261 recommendation).
  3. Transmission of encoded picture (can have different recommendations and one of them could be ISDN).
  4. Receiving encoded picture
  5. Decoding the encoded picture (H.261 recommendation).
  6. Display of the moving pictures. This codec is Multiple instance capable.

Features:

  • Full and half duplex mode of operation.
  • All the standard test vectors are bit exact verified.
  • Capable of operating on single sample or on frames.
  • Can operate on multiple instances/channel.
  • Compatible with NTSC and PAL systems.
  • Supports CIF and QCIF picture.
  • Highly optimized code.

Configuration:

  • Direct interface to 8 KHz. PCM data stream
  • Available with H.324 implementation along with H.245
  • Coder selection can occur at run time
  • Multiple instances compatible

    H.263 - Video Codec

Description:

This video codec for Audio-Visual services operating at 64 Kbits/sec. This is based on the recommendation by ITU-T H.263. The H.263 algorithm operates at 64 kbps. H.263+ is an enhancement over H.263 specially on the motion compensation side.

Broadly, the picture transmission can be classified into:

  1. Picture acquisition and conversion (as per the CCIR Recommendation 601)
  2. Encoding (compressing) picture (H.263 recommendation)
  3. Transmission of encoded picture (can have different recommendations and one of them could be ISDN)
  4. Receiving encoded picture
  5. Decoding the encoded picture (H.263 recommendation)
  6. Display of the moving pictures. This codec is multiple instance capable
